DEVELOPMENT OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Responsible for soliciting gifts of $5,000 and higher from grateful patients and hospital friends.
  • Manage relationships with approximately 75-100 prospective donors and will be expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward these important friends of the hospital.
  • Develops and coordinates a plan for donor recognition, retention, and renewal.  
  • Implements programs to identify prospective contributors and cultivate major donors. 
  • Solicits gifts and sponsorships from foundations, corporations, community organizations and selected individuals.
  • Works collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development and advancement staff, and other Hospital representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for Hospital-wide priorities.
  • Monitors all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations.
  • Recommends and assists with programming involving the CDO, Foundation Trustees, executive and leadership teams, and campaign volunteer leaders.
  • Must be a highly energetic and self-motivating professional with a track record of building donor relationships.
  • Prepares timely operational reports including detailed program, event and annual donor reports. Profit and loss reports for every fundraiser showing income and expenses.  Ensures for database management, donor segmentation and trend analysis. Works within scope of authority.
  • Reports to the Chief Development Officer and works collaboratively and strategically with the CEO, other fundraising professionals, the Foundation Trustees, and other executive team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish personal goals, objectives and strategies for five figure gift fundraising. Participates in assessing progress toward goals with CDO on a monthly basis.
  • Manage a portfolio of primary prospects.
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
  • Identify and research prospects, 
  • Initiate contacts with potential prospect, leadership and major gift donors
  • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers
  • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation 
  • Make solicitations when appropriate
  • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors
  • Focus on securing support for a set of campus-wide priorities that include all programs and help plan and prepare for fundraising campaigns.
  • Demonstrate program management knowledge to include special event planning and production, building, maintaining and extracting data from the donor database. 
  • Ability to develop fundraising strategies for projects and events. 
  • Ability to stay abreast of new developments in the business community and the philanthropic sector
  • Represents the foundation and Chief Development Officer at internal and external events, as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Five or more years experience / knowledge in fundraising preferably in higher education or healthcare
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and the Hospital
  • A dedication to promoting the Hospital’s fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with leaders, trustees, volunteers, and the development team
  • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments
  • Must be willing to travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Donor Management Software (Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge & Auction MaestroPro)
